Whey protein gets thumbs up from knowledgeable trainers
Personal trainers in the know about whey protein recommend it to their clients.
A June 2007 study of 106 IDEA Health and Fitness Association members who are personal trainers showed that:
- 85% of personal trainers are aware of whey protein.
- 68% of those who are aware of whey protein recommend it to their clients.
The 318 personal trainers and fitness-related health professionals surveyed consider whey protein to better deliver the benefit of “retaining muscle” than soy, meat/poultry, beans, egg, wheat gluten or peanuts consumed after exercise.
What’s more, whey protein is considered by that same group to better deliver the benefits “increases lean muscle” and “enhances physical performance” than soy, beans, casein, egg, wheat gluten or peanuts consumed after exercise.
"I'm a huge fan of whey protein. We recommend it to our clients. There's no other way to get as big a bang for your protein buck as whey protein."
--Karen Heffernan, Founder, Strength Club, Highland Park, Illinois
"When I was a college athlete, I was encouraged to use whey protein to help get strong and stay strong. I recommend those same benefits to my clients now as a personal trainer."
--Evan Combs, personal trainer, San Francisco, California
